The other day my wife and I were talking with some friends in vent and the conversation turned to "the old days of WoW." We talked about how things were more challenging and how Blizzard shouldn't have changed this or that. I'll spare you the details of the discussion, let's just say that we missed the days when being max level meant something and it took work to get there.
At different points of the conversation we realized that some of us hadn't had the pleasure of experiencing many of the things that players now days just take for granted. The Deadmines, Wailing Caverns and all of those lower level instances had become no more than places to run our low level friends and alts through. It also came to light that of those in the vent channel only two of us had experienced any of the Pre-BC instances at the appropriate levels. At that point the idea was already in the air and then finally it was said. "We should make alts and do the old instances at level".
After that we decided which five people would participate, what classes we would all play, and what professions we would all do. We now had a 5-man group and started leveling to level 12 so we could start RFC. The group is as follows:
Masakistic - Warrior - Mining/Blacksmithing
Oldskoolkilr - Rogue - Skinning/Leatherworking
Octun - Hunter - Mining/Engineering
Osremmy - Shaman - Herbalism/Alchemy
Healaggrodie - Priest - Tailoring/Enchanting
Now as we were preparing and leveling these toons we were discussing the rules of this "project." We decided that we would follow pre-bc rules and such as best we could. Some of the rules are as follows and are subject to changes we go along.
- If it wasn't in original WoW we don't use it. (of course there are some changes we can't avoid but as close as we can)
- No Blood Elves and that means no paladins and no going to Eversong Woods, no Ghostlands, etc...
- Professions can't go over 300
- No help from outside toons (the gold you make is what you have to use)
- Crafted items and enchants only come from inside the group
- Leveling is limited to the minimum levels for each instance and everyone must stay as close to everyone's level as possible.
As you can see it is not going to be the usual alt leveling experience and that is the point. We want those who haven't experienced Pre-BC WoW to get the chance. I will update on this blog as we go so people who want to follow along can do so.
Until next time, have fun and thanks for reading!
